It all began in 1990 when Jose brings his guitar to the local luthier, on his then guitar teacher's advice. When he got his instrument back, he didn't realize they had given it back to him without even touching it. It was his teacher who, after inspecting the guitar, told Jose what had happened.
After 2 or 3 times receiving similar treatment, Jose had enough and decided to learn how to fix his own instrument.
In 1993 he built his very first guitar, with an acrylic body and a neck he had taken from a second hand guitar a friend had gifted him. The guitar was aesthetically incredible, but couldn't keep in tune or produce any decent sounds... That wasn't enough to bring him down, and he started asking his friends to lend him their guitars to investigate them. He would secretly take them apart and measure their dimensions, weights, etc. All that information allowed him to build a second guitar in 1995, and this time it would be made of wood. It sounded good, but was still plagued with tuning problems, high action due to construction errors, poorly mounted frets, and so on.
In the same year he met Segura, a classical luthier based in Terrassa (BCN). It was he who would teach him how to calculate exact fret position so that the guitar would be perfectly in tune. Thanks to Segura's advice and to his own investigation and experience, Jose was able to build, still in 1995, his first quality instrument. His new found success was confirmation that he indeed had the talent to become a great luthier.
Anothe rimportant figure in his early career was Gastón Mazzolla, Argentinian luthier, who helped him grow in the right direction, with advice and a few tricks that Jose incorporated into his own style.
Now equipped with all this knowledge, Jose spent a few years working in one of the most famous workshops in Spain. There, he built, repaired, and set up hundreds of instruments.
And now, a new era begins for Jose Ramos and for all those who have enjoyed his work in htese past years . Ramos Guitars has opened his doors in November of 2007, with a new workshop and store, a new Website, and an online store. His guitars have already been accepted as authentic works of art. In Spetember 2007, leading guitar magazine Guitarrista called one of his exclusive guitars, the CT-01 “an instrument of the highest quality”, with "great sound, exceptionally finished, and esthetically ground-breaking". Guitarrista gave the guitar a 4.5/5.
Also in 2007, internationally renowned guitarist Andre Tonelli trusted in Jose for the making of his Signature Guitar Model, to be used on his next album Power World Fantastic.
Jose welcomes you and puts himself at your service in your musical adventures.
